Dear Alumnae and Friends of the Chorus,

Happy 2019! My name is Julia Kothmann and I am overjoyed to serve as the President of the Virginia Women’s Chorus this year. A little bit about me: I am a third year from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania studying Economics and Political Philosophy, Policy, and Law with a minor in Spanish. I have been a member of the Chorus since the Fall of 2016, and I have enjoyed every minute of singing and sisterhood. I previously served on the Managing Board as Fundraising Chair in 2017 and as Business Manager in 2018 and I am honored to continue serving this year!

Along with me, the Chorus elected the rest of our new Managing Board in December. This year, I am very proud to be working with our Vice President, Caroline Massey, Business Manager, Emily Fox, Publicity Chair, Kayleigh Harris, Fundraising Chair, Sarah Combs, Concert Manager, Chang Cheng, and Alumnae Relations Chair, Mary Katherine McCullough. More information about those lovely ladies and our newly elected Appointed Board can be found here.

Perhaps the Managing and Appointed Boards’ biggest project this semester is our annual Spring concert on Saturday April 13th at 1pm in Old Cabell Hall, this time with some extra excitement! This year’s concert will feature the world debut of an original piece composed by Ola Gjeilo commissioned by the Chorus with funding from the Jefferson Trust. Taking place on Jefferson’s birthday, the concert will commemorate not only the University’s Bicentennial but also the important role women have served in its history. As the oldest women’s musical group on Grounds, the Chorus is honored to be able to participate in the community’s celebration by sharing this beautiful piece of music. We hope you will be able to join us for this momentous event!

Thank you all for your continued support of the Chorus. Our organization is strong today due to the diligence, dedication, and passion of our past members. We appreciate all you have done and continue to do to make this organization successful. Vdubz love,

Julia Kothmann
