Letter from the President: Julia Kothmann

This has been such an exciting semester for the Virginia Women’s Chorus. At the end of September, we held our fourth annual Women Against Violence concert with performances from a cappella groups and guest artist, Ellis Butler. The event was a huge success, and the Chorus was able to donate over $500 to the International Rescue Committee. This was our new girls’ first performance with the Chorus and we are so proud of how well they did!

On October 18th, the Chorus got to perform at the annual Family Weekend Choral Showcase along with the Virginia Glee Club, the University Singers, and the Chamber Singers. In addition to performing three pieces from the Chorus’s repertoire, all the groups sang a piece together! Family weekend is one of our favorite events of the year as we get to sing with over 200 people and meet the family and friends of all of our members. Thank you for joining us!

As if that weren’t enough, the Chorus was also busy in October conducting our Annual Fund Drive. This yearly drive allows the Chorus to pay its operating expenses such as hiring a professional director, renting spaces, and paying for sheet music. Thanks to your generosity, the Chorus was able to raise over $13,000. If you didn’t get a chance to donate yet, there is still time. Donations can be made at virginiawomenschorus.org and all donations made before November 15th will be recognized in our Candlelight Concert program. Thank you so much to everyone who donated; you make VWC possible!

I hope to see you at this year’s Candlelight Concerts.
