Join the Virginia Women’s Chorus, University Singers, UVA Chamber Singers, and Virginia Glee Club for the traditional Family Weekend Choral Showcase—Friday, November 3rd, 8:00 pm in Old Cabell Hall on the Lawn at the University of Virginia.
The concert’s lively and varied program will feature selections from all four ensembles’ 2023 repertoire, including Jennifer Higdon’s “O Magnum Mysterium” with instrumental accompaniment, Rollo Dilworth’s arrangement of “Shine on Me,” Nikolsky’s “Gladsome Light,” “By Night” by Elaine Hagenberg (with percussion), and the rousing concluding chorus “All of Us” from Craig Hella Johnson’s Considering Matthew Shepard. In addition, the Chamber Singers will give a live performance with local musician/songwriter John Kelly of his “Three Bright Stars”, written and recorded last year in honor of the slain UVA football players.
The evening will close with a joint performance of selections including the beloved UVA songs, sung by the four combined choruses (more than 150 voices strong), joined on stage by their alumni.
The Virginia Women’s Chorus is conducted by KaeRenae Mitchell, the University Singers, and UVA Chamber Singers are directed by UVA professor and conductor Michael Slon, and the Virginia Glee Club is led by conductor Frank Albinder.
